Off Piste Marine is excited to feature Red Winches on aluminium hull exploration catamaran Endurance, our flagship vessel built for extreme environments. Engineered from the ground up, this rugged catamaran is designed to operate in some of the world’s most remote and challenging marine conditions. To achieve this, we’ve teamed up with Red Winches and Red Start Design to deliver precision-engineered systems built for performance and reliability.
Built for Harsh Conditions
Red Winches and Red Start Design are specialists in engineering systems that thrive under pressure. Both have supplied high-performance equipment to the UK military, where failure is not an option. Their work is trusted in the harshest environments on land and sea.
We’re not just adding off-the-shelf components—we’re working closely with these teams to integrate smart, purpose-built systems directly into Endurance.
What They’re Bringing Aboard
Red Winches supplies the ATOM2, a compact, high-torque recovery winch. It’s built to operate in extreme off-grid conditions—exactly why we have Red Winches on our aluminium hull exploration catamaran – Endurance.
Meanwhile, Red Start Design is engineering pneumatically operated systems for Endurance.
• The anchor recovery system
• The bow door
• The retractable aft wings
We chose pneumatics for a reason. These systems are lightweight, reliable, and resistant to corrosion—ideal for saltwater environments. They’re also simpler than hydraulic systems, reducing maintenance and complexity.
Together, we’re also co-developing a snubbing winch designed for the marine market. We’ll launch and showcase it on Endurance.
Why It Matters
Every elements on Endurance must serve a purpose. We chose an Aluminium Hull for strength and weight savings. We selected our partners for their deep expertise and real-world experience.
This vessel will perform in environments where there’s no room for compromise.
By collaborating with Red Winches and Red Start Design, we’re making sure every moving part is up to the challenge and grounded in the kind of hands-on practicality that expedition-grade vessels demand.
